About Us

Our History

After working as an agricultural research scientist for 16 years, Frank McKenzie changed careers and founded the Body Blitzer Fitness Centre in January 2007. Frank always had a passion for karate and fitness, successfully owning and operating Funakoshi Karate International Australia for 27 years and the Body Blitzer Fitness Centre for 14 years before passing on his gym business to Joshua Suringa in December 2020.

Frank used his qualifications and experience as a personal trainer and 6th dan blackbelt in karate to make Body Blitzer different to other gyms. He achieved this by incorporating the motivating structure and discipline of karate to bring a unique approach to health, fitness and self defence instruction.

He designed the Body Blitzer Fitness Centre to stand out from other gyms by focusing on four key principles:

  1. Knowing every client by name and using names during every session.
  2. Interacting with all clients several times every session.
  3. Continually focusing and correcting exercise form and technique and acknowledging great effort.
  4. Running planned freestyle functional fitness classes that were different each session.
